Front Yard for Family Living…
Deep in the suburbs of Goleta and across the street from a busy park, this family wanted a welcoming, neighborly and edible front yard. And as a bonus, way not catch rainwater from the roof and channel it into a rock-lined basin and save it for a not rainy day?

The front porch was expanded for seating and a simple split rail fence and gently stepped flagstone walkway welcome visitors and family.

Between the fence and sidewalk, wildly bright Lomandra catches the eye.

High contrast and a bit of screening provided by Leucadendron 'Safari Sunset' and New Zealand Tea Bush, and anchored in the corner with a juvenile olive tree.

Hot, hot, hot!

The view from the driveway carries the eye to the rainwater infiltration area.

Local sandstone cobbles line a newly create low spot and safely channels water back into the garden.

A view to the family sitting porch.

The generously large, sunny side yard has a bed for mom, a bed for dad, and another for the kids.
Where it all began.
Not what you'd call curb appeal.

Schematic design - the ideas begin to coalesce.
